AI & Vision Technology
1) What makes the machine AI?
Our machine uses learned models and makes inferences on what was taken. In short: it’s AI because the machine learns from data and infers what happened using computer vision + sensor fusion, rather than relying on static, brittle rules.
2) Does the cooler use weight sensors, computer vision, or both?
ReyVend uses Vision-Only Accuracy. We utilize high-resolution cameras and advanced AI to identify specific products with over 99% accuracy. While many machines are vision-only, what matters is the result. We use field data from mixed lighting scenarios and real-life targeted theft attempts to ensure the machine infers correctly. This superior technology replaces maintenance-heavy weight sensors.
3) What types of cameras are used?
We use high-resolution IP-cameras with depth sensors, multi-angle coverage (to remove blind spots), and infrared/thermal detection to improve performance in low light.
4) How accurate is the AI in identifying the correct product?
Typical end-to-end recognition accuracy is ~95–99%. ReyVend consistently performs at >99%, even under inconsistent facings, poor lighting environments, and with similar products (e.g., distinguishing a 12oz Coke from a 20oz Coke).
5) How are similar-looking products handled?
To recognize subtle differences, two things are crucial: high-end cameras and a high-integrity product database. ReyVend provides both. We won't allow operators to upload their own product images without our unique approval process that analyzes product edges and zooms in on pixels to ensure accuracy.
6) Will the machine work if the internet goes offline?
Yes. We offer Reliable Offline Operation. All critical data is stored locally on the machine’s hard drive, enabling smooth transactions even in locations with weak or unreliable internet connections.
Hardware & Design
7) What is the lifespan of this technology? Will I need to replace parts?
- Cameras: Our IP-cameras are top-of-the-line and should last 5–7 years even with environmental exposure.
- Machine learning: We provide quarterly software updates to monitor performance drift, expecting our software to remain viable for over 10 years.
- Payment terminal: New models should last well over 5 years.
-
General Hardware: There are few moving parts. We warranty all parts for one year, but expect components to last several years.
8) Can I add a cash acceptor?
No. A bill acceptor is used for single-vend purchases. Our machines facilitate full-access shopping where the customer is charged automatically upon exit. Therefore, our machines do not support bill validators.
9) How do you ensure products are always reachable and faced?
We use a dual system of Gravity-Fed Shelving AND Push Plates. This combination guarantees that products are always pushed to the front and perfectly faced for the next customer, even if the consumer bypasses the push plate mechanism.
10) What makes the ReyVend cooler design unique?
We prioritize Sleekness. We have concealed the unsightly compressor and moved ventilation to the back. This allows for a visually dominant, all-glass front design that looks modern in any location.
11) Can I generate extra revenue with the screen?
Yes. Every unit features a 27-inch Digital Advertising Display. Operators can easily manage ads, images, and videos directly through ReyVend’s software to run targeted campaigns.
Customer Experience & Theft
12) What happens if someone leaves the door open?
The door is on a hinge and it will automatically close. If the customer took items, they will be charged once the door closes. If they did not take anything, the pending charge is removed to show zero.
13) How does payment pre-authorization work?
We use Incremental Pre-Authorization. The system starts with a small entry amount and dynamically adjusts the authorization as items are taken. This ensures the customer is only charged the exact final amount, avoiding large upfront holds.
14) Can the system detect when a customer puts an item back?
Yes. If a product is put back before the door closes, the customer won't be charged. Even if they put the item back on a different shelf or position, ReyVend tracks hand-object interaction and will charge the truth!
15) Can’t you just steal from it?
You can try, but the machine will catch you. Our computer vision sees what you took. If the camera is blocked, the system runs an Anti-Theft Audit comparing inventory before and after the door closes. It will flag the transaction and charge the customer for what is missing. You also have the ability to be alerted and manually charge the cardholder.
Operations, Fees & Software
16) Is there an app or is the backend on a website?
There is a mobile app (iPhone and Android) and a web-based portal. The mobile application is fully built with payment integration, and most customers prefer to use this.
17) How does the AI initially know what is being sold? Do I need to train it?
No, you do not need to train the machine. Operators select products from our master library—or add new SKUs—and set the initial quantities. The machine learning is done before you receive the machine. Our software is designed for operators who aren't AI experts, making it roll-out ready from day 1.
18) Am I going to need training or have to train my staff?
No. We developed a program that is operator-friendly and roll-out ready. We made the learning curve extremely simple. We developed the technology specifically for traditional vending operators, so no specialized AI training is required for you or your staff.
19) What are the recurring fees?
We believe in Transparent Pricing. A full breakdown of recurring fees is as follows:
- Credit card fees: 3.4% + 10 cents per transaction
- AI recognition fee: 4 cents per transaction
- Software fee: $30 per month per machine
- Communication: $20/month for wireless (or free for Wi-Fi)
20) Can I get a discount if I buy more than 1?
- Bulk equipment: 5% on orders of 6+ and 8% on orders of 20+.
- Distributor pricing: 20% discount on all equipment with MOQs.
-
Enterprise software: 20% discount on software fees for operators with 50+ machines.
21) Do you fix it on-site if it breaks?
No. We do not provide manual labor. We provide all tools, software, tech support (live and chat), parts, and guides, but operators are required to be self-sufficient. In the rare case a machine can't be fixed, we would replace it under warranty. This is a semi-passive business, requiring some operator involvement.
22) Can the card reader integrate with VendSoft?
Yes. The card reader can integrate with VendSoft and third-party apps via our API support.
23) What’s the difference between a micro-market and an AI smart cooler?
A micro-market uses self-checkout (scan and pay), while a ReyVend AI smart cooler uses auto-checkout (grab and go). AI Smart Coolers are a more affordable, secure, and scalable option with a smaller footprint and better theft prevention capabilities.
